DTM Title with MAHLE technology

The grand DTM finale in mid-October in Hockenheim saw Marco Wittmann crowned DTM Champion for the second time since 2014. After 18 exciting races during the season, the driver for BMW Team RMG came out on top of the tough competition in the hard-fought touring car series. At the age of 26 years and 327 days, Wittmann is the all-time youngest double DTM champion. Before him, no driver has ever been able win a second title by his fourth year in DTM. “Fantastic! Being able to be the first BMW driver to win two DTM titles is an amazing feeling,” said the driver from Fürth.

Although Wittmann at first seemed to be heading into the final weekend with a comfortable 14-point lead, the two final races of the year turned into a gripping thriller. His toughest pursuer, Audi pilot Edoardo Mortara, with a victory on Saturday and third-place finish in Sunday’s race, did everything he could to make life as hard as possible for Wittmann. In the end, fourth place on Sunday was enough for the BMW driver to win the drivers’ title. In the final reckoning, he was four points ahead of Mortara.

For MAHLE Motorsports, another extremely successful DTM season came to an end in Hockenheim. Together with BMW Motorsports, they added four victories, 16 podium finishes, and six pole positions to the books. With the drivers’ title, second and third place in the team ranking, and second in the manufacturer’s list, BMW Motorsport and MAHLE Motorsports continue their success story in the DTM. The title hunt continues in 2017—with a newly developed BMW M4 DTM.
